BreakOut: Touch Rugby 030808
Monday, August 04, 2008
Now who said Rugby has to be rough and dirty? We surely showed them that we, as shalom youths, could play strategic, organized, clean [kinda] and fun rugby. Ok fine, so maybe we cheated coz it's Touch Rugby but nonetheless, it was a great time of fellowship while we baked in the sun. The YF had our very first BreakOut of the new YF year yesterday. Braving the sun, we got our sporting attire on and our perspiration pores ready to work harder than we were.
We met in the Chapel at 1.45pm [mind you, this was a first Sunday of the month] and after having a briefing of the game by our dear Lynn, we made our way to Pasir Ris park after gearing up. The sun beat us to the spot but that didn't dishearten any of the youths. After having a simple, yet confusingly humorous, warm up conducted by Gabriel, we hit the field anticipating much fun.
The first game was utter confusion. Why can I say this? well coz i was IN the first game. It was messy, frustrating and downright disorganized. I'd say chaos ruled the first game. However, we then had the gallant knights and princesses take charge and slay the dragon of mess in the likes of Clement, Sherwin and Regina [Aaron's GF]. Finally, we had people who REALLY knew the game because they played it many times before... in their school teams! Eeps! We were in the presence of professionals. :) But once more solid rules were set in place and referees were more... well, EQUIPPED to lead the game, Touch Rugby got much more, mind my english while i try to find a word, Fun-ner. :)
The second game saw Team 1 holding the fort as they battled against Team 3. [yes i was Team 2, the team ousted on the first try... mind u, in confusion and disarray ok!] Trys were made and distance was covered till some lucky soul managed to find an opening and fly through the defence to score a touch down. My my, the game rotated a few more times and everyone was just rearing to get back into the field.
We ended the game at 5.15 and Adrian shared a short sharing. He spoke about how a big boss of his company gave a surprise visit to his company. Some people were slacking, some were playing but yet some were working. He brought across the point that if we were in their shoes, what would we have done. What more if the Creator of the Universe came quietly, would we be prepared? Furthermore, he could go up to that boss and say hi but that boss would prob not have known him. Likewise, there will come a day when people will come up to the Lord and say that they knew Him but He would turn them away and tell them that He never knew them. Would we have to go through that? Or are we assured of our salvation. How can we be? Through Faith.
Like Peter, when Jesus walked on the water, Peter had the faith to first get out of the boat [amidst CRAZY stormy weather mind you] and take that first step ONTO [not into] the water. However, after a while, the distractions of his surroundings got the better of him and he started to sink. Peter shouted in desperation, "Save me Jesus" and Jesus reached out His hand to save him. Just to leave you with this thought, that Jesus will save, if you call on Him and you have to take that first step of faith and step out of the boat.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next time we meet as a YF and there's going to be combined YF coming up too! Whoo!
