Pirates of the Curry Bun 15th July 2006
Saturday, July 15, 2006

Today we had our first BreakOut activity. Coined 'Pirates of the Curry Bun', this event really lived up to its name. Pirate themed throughout from the start all the way till the end, the youths had a smashing time sailing the seven seas and hunting for treasure.
The event kick started at 3.15pm with a splitting of groups followed by a flag making contest. Each pirate crew were tasked with coming up with a name for their crew and a flag to fly high while battling it out on the seven seas to be the first to find the treasure. The teams were given 10 minutes each to design their flag made out of cloth and a wooden pole. Once done, there was a very interesting contrast between the two teams and the flags looked really neat.
Setting off with their first clue, the team, SPD [Society of the Physically Disabled] conquered the first station and left the 2nd team, Rouge Hearts, in a bit of a whirlwind from their rudders. But Rouge hearts fought hard in the first station for the Scavenger hunt and closed the gap after they were asked to dig for buried treasure in the sand at station 2.
The teams were enthusiastic throughout being clearly noticable by their red or yellow flag flying high as they sailed from one station game to the next.
Searching for the next station from a high point, the teams easily located their last game station and headed to the jetty for a highly entertaining [the people at the jetty stopped their work and turned to watch this crazy bunch of youths on the floor]. Floor? why you may ask, well this game involved the crew members to work as a team and lift a stuff toy off the sea bed [jetty floor] with raffia string tied around a central rubber band. Easier said then done, these landlubbers were finding out that saving a member who's gone overboard might have been the hardest game of the day. After lifting the stuff toy off the ground, transporting it across a given distance was the next challenge. Needless to say, the lads found the game very challenging and were constantly seen wriggling on their bellys on the jetty floor.
The day ended with worship under the shades and flora of the wonderful and magnificient east coast park. Singing songs to God in this setting really set the mood right and all was lost in the worship to God and His awesome presence in our lives. The main point of today's activity was to not seek for treasures that be tangible or visible. Treasures that are earthly and worldly will not last but treasures in heaven, are the ones we should strive to seek. Treasures like a knowledge of God's Word and fellowship amongst brethren. The passage that was quoted was Matthew 6:19-21.
"
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also"
Fellowship time followed with snacks as we stayed back and continued to sing praises to Him and fellowshipping with each other. Seeing everyone enjoying themselves in an environment differing from our weekly 'chapel' meetings was quite refreshing. Praise the Lord for a envirograting, healthy time of fun at East Coast Park.
